Tuition

Online tuition
Tutoring online inevitably became popular during lockdown and is proven to have many benefits:
-
Lessons can take place anywhere
-
Lessons are cheaper as travel time and fuel are not required
-
Lessons are convenient to both the student and teacher
-
There is more flexibility with timings. Lessons can take place in free periods and during the holidays.
I use a platform called Ziteboard for online tutoring and recommend that my online students use a tablet (you can get a Wacom One for around £30) to prevent the quality of the lesson from being impacted.
I charge £45 per hour for online tuition.
In-Person Tuition
The majority of my students have lessons in-person. This is because families like to meet me in person and recognise the following benefits:
-
Reserved students tend to feel more relaxed in person
-
I am able to observe how the student is managing through their body-language, facial expressions etc. and respond appropriately
-
We can use props to demonstrate mathematical concepts.
Due to the fuel and travel time required, I charge £50 per hour for in-person tutoring.
Group Sessions
If private tutoring seems expensive, why not try joining my online groups? The group size is limited to 4, so you will still get a lot of attention, and the price per lesson is £25. Check the groups below to see if they would be suitable for you.
How did I determine these prices?
Tutoring is a completely unregulated industry and therefore it's quite common to see students offering lessons in their spare time for as little as £20. There are a number of reasons as to why they are cheaper and why my price is what it is:
-
My academic record I have a first-class degree in Mathematics as well as a masters in Learning and Teaching from Oxford. As such, I have excellent subject knowledge that allows me to respond to any questions that students have. I have also read plenty of literature about the best methods to help my students thrive.
-
Examiner experience When I first started marking, I felt so frustrated knowing that my own students would be losing marks because they did not present their answers in a certain way. Unfortunately, this is the reality of taking exams and therefore being taught by an examiner is advantageous.
-
My track record I have had GCSE students that have improved by 4 grades in an academic year. Although I cannot promise that this will happen with every student, it shows that those that are dedicated and motivated can achieve great progress with my guidance.
-
Teaching experience Having taught the same topics over and over, I have excellent pedagogical knowledge. This means that I know the common pitfalls that students make and therefore I ensure that we tackle all of these in our sessions. I have also practised teaching topics in many different ways to perfect my explanations.
-
Professionalism Whilst I always aim to build a good rapport with students and bring humour to my sessions, students understand that maths is the purpose for me being there and that they are safe with me. I am DBS certified and have advice on this website to help keep their child safe. I maintain great communication with parents about how sessions are going and copy parents into all emails with young people.
The reality is that you get what you pay for. You are paying for the skills I have developed, through training and experience, that lead to faster progress and a better understanding of maths.
